GLOBAL HEALTH

At NaLEC, we are guided by our faith in Christ and the biblical principles of compassion, justice, and healing. Scripture teaches us to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39), compelling us to care for the health and well-being of all individuals, especially the marginalized and vulnerable. In the spirit of Christ’s healing ministry, we are committed to addressing global health challenges, recognizing that caring for the sick and promoting health is a fundamental expression of our faith.

We have actively engaged in advocating for global health initiatives, including the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). PEPFAR, established in 2003, is the largest commitment by any nation to address a single disease, having saved over 25 million lives and preventing millions of HIV infections worldwide.

In January 2025, an executive order was issued halting U.S. foreign aid funding for 90 days, impacting critical global health services, including PEPFAR. This freeze has disrupted vital HIV treatment programs, putting millions at risk.

In response to this development, NaLEC joined other organizations in signing letters urging the administration to reconsider this decision, emphasizing the life-saving impact of PEPFAR and the moral imperative to continue supporting global health initiatives. These letters highlight the biblical call to “speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves” (Proverbs 31:8) and to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39), reinforcing our commitment to global health advocacy.

Through our advocacy and partnerships, we strive to reflect Christ’s love and compassion by supporting global health initiatives that save lives and promote well-being for all.
